Werk Discs founder Darren Cunningham's debut album as Actress is an odd, lumbering beast that sounds sweeter with repeat listens, but never less strange. Borrowing rhythms from hip-hop, electro and dubstep and employing both fuzzy analog electronics and samples warped beyond recognition, it's a crumbling, stumbling sound every bit as vaporous as the title. The gritty, pixelated tones recall low-bitrate YouTube videos, but Actress' atmospherics are anything but small-screen.
