...And the Seventh His Soul Detesteth
Released: Mar 2013
Label: Karisma / Dark Essence Records
You have to endure way too much torturous grumbling from the bowels of earth, Hell and/or singer Ares' digestive track to get to it, but almost every cut on this Norwegian death-metal gang's seventh full-length gives way to an exploratory guitar section, often worthy of the brainer side of '70s arena rock. Alternately, just fast-forward: to 4:30 of "Ruin And Resurrect," 3:00 of "The Confusion Of Tongues," 4:00 of "Reap What You Saw." "Hubris" is a lovely Spanish classical type thing; "Saligia" starts out almost heavy surf. And sometimes Ares' accented belly-aching comes out passably weird.
