Airbourne exemplify the Jet Rule: namely, if an Australian band that sort of sounds like AC/DC gets airplay in the U.S.A., it's not a bad thing. Their 2008 debut, which reached No. 106 stateside and landed them piles of video-game placements, shows them better players than singers or songwriters; they'd clearly absorbed too much Brian-era and not enough Bon-era AC/DC. But "Blackjack" is fast with hearty gang yells, and "Diamond in the Rough" is a poor-guy-meets-rich-girl class war. And one does not nitpick when confronted with a composition as poetically titled as "Cheap Wine & Cheaper Women."
