There's no doubt that pianist Alan Pasqua is legit -- he nearly scored a Grammy for his 2008 collection of standards in a trio with Peter Erskine and Dave Carpenter -- but taking on an overdubbed piano record in the spirit of Bill Evans' Conversations With Myself is bold. Yet there's something humble about his approach to Evans' compositions, which he endows with a (fairly random) baseball theme. The two-piano version of "Take Me out to the Ballgame" -- not an Evans tune, by the way -- marries the record's themes with cool elegance.
