New York Eye and Ear Control is one of those rare soundtracks that have become far more legendary than the actual film. Recorded in 1964, the album is a landmark free jazz recording, featuring some of the music's greatest musicians, namely saxophonist Albert Ayler and trumpeter Don Cherry. Along with an excellent supporting cast, they venture to the outer limits of sound. Be prepared because this is a haunting and at times claustrophobic listening experience. But man, what a wild ride.
