The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here
Released: May 2013
Label: Capitol Records
The William DuVall-fronted Alice in Chains will never recreate the emotional torment of Dirt and Facelift, and they don't want to, which is why The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here -- like its predecessor Black Gives Way to Blue -- works. It's not a record designed to change the world, but rather give fans what they want: really hard grooving rock interlaced with the group's trademark harmonies. The best jams are "Stone," "Hollow" and "Lab Monkey," all of which pivot on gnarled blues riffs. The only major issue is that the production, as with a lot of modern hard rock these days, is too compressed.
