Amos Lee's bourbon shot of a voice is capable of such a complex range of emotion -- even as it maintains an earthy constancy. This EP -- consisting of six previously unreleased tracks from his Mission Bell sessions -- starts out trying its damnedest to break your heart with a run of spare, brokedown gut-wrenchers ("The Darkness" would be excruciating were it not so beautiful). And then he breaks it all over again with "Mama Sail to Me" and "There I Go Again," two of the most earnestly hopeful, dustily sunny, incredibly honest little tunes we've heard in a long time.
