Miklos Rozsa was best known for his film work, but this violin concerto shows his ability to think beyond the screen. Written for Jascha Heifetz in the 1950s, the work explores melodies of Rozsa's native Hungary without as much rhythmic strangeness as, say, Bartok and with more obvious jazz influence. Violinist Anastasia Khitruk skitters into epic melodies as if this were a spirited village dance and not a Grammy-nominated studio recording.
