It may seem like Anita Baker single-handedly created the modern jazz-meets-soul singing style, but Angela Bofill has been brewing uptown quiet storms for over twenty years now. Bofill initially had considerable success on the urban charts, but her deceptively mellow vocal style deserves better promotion in the current diva-driven climate.
