A supple mix of breezy West Coast jazz and atomic-powered swing, courtesy of Anita and modernist arranger Bill Holman. As usual, O'Day pulls off a balancing act between supper club sophistication and slightly unhinged goofiness without ever losing control. Holman, writing ace Basie-style charts, loads his band with an amazing roster of underrated L.A. modernists. Any one who believes that O'Day couldn't reed a lyric or sing a ballad with feeling should go straight to "The Party's Over."
