Ann Hampton Callaway is an exceptional jazz-influenced vocalist who gets hipper and deeper with each release. She has recorded with Kenny Barron and Wynton Marsalis and shines not only in such distinguished company but stands as an equal. Her deep musicality and rock solid sense of swing are close to Janis Siegel's but she should also appeal to younger, Diana Krall converts. Callaway brings an unbridled sense of fun to her material but at her most intimate she draws a picture of a femme fatale taking the smoky stage in an old film noir.
