Arranged chronologically and opening with some fairly raw recordings, this compilation offers an overview of the long career of violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter (or A.S.M., as familiar fans are likely to abbreviate). Her fantastic virtuosity on Pablo de Sarasate's concert showpiece, Zigeunerweisen, is simply stunning, as are several of the concertos. But the simple little pieces, like Debussy's Beau Soir and "It Ain't Necessarily So," balance the grand playing, presenting her oversized talent in delicate, diminutive packages.
