Since this tenor saxophonist was so consistently good, it can be hard to pick one session as his best. That said, this set with Miles Davis' rhythm section is a career highlight. With no rehearsal and a taped-together mouthpiece, the eternally troubled Pepper joined Red Garland (piano), Philly Joe Jones (drums) and Paul Chambers (bass) to cut this East-meets-West classic.
