by Arvo Part
Released: Sep 2004
Like other Elora Festival Singers/Arvo Part recordings on Naxos, this album is an absolute pleasure of pristine vocals, precisely balanced orchestration and tasteful direction. "Berliner Messe" dominates this album, with its modern twist on the church mass with orchestral and organ accompaniment; the restricted yet lush harmonic movement in the voices is Part's hallmark. "Magnificat" is Part's most-performed work and alternates between solo and ensemble sections arising out of a melancholy silence.
