Hank III has obviously spent as much time listening to horror rock as he has his grandfather's honky-tonk. In fact, there's little twang to be found on AssJack, the debut from the alt-country dude's pulverizing side project. What you will find is gnarly psych-scum vocals a la White Zombie and the Butthole Surfers and a fat sack of metalcore blast beats. The album's best one-two punch is surely "Smoke the Fire" and "Cocaine the White Devil." Both are utterly gratuitous in terms of sonic violence!
