After Deerhunter's bright, breezy Microcastle, Bradford Cox returns as Atlas Sound to explore the hazier, more blustery reaches of the same pop terrain. A homespun vibe colors the spindly guitars and fuzzy, indistinct loops, but beyond the tape hiss looms a colorful world whose contours are surprisingly familiar. Animal Collective's Noah Lennox fronts "Walkabout," a love letter to '60s pop, and Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier helps resuscitate the '80s on "Quick Canal," while the Mersey-drifting "Sheila" is as radiant as pop gets, aptly earning its "glo-fi" tag.
