On this under-heard gem of '90s East Coast boom-bap, Bahamadia spins dense rhymes over jazz loops from DJ Premier, Ski Beatz and others. A classic example of lyrics-for-lyrics'-sake, a few of Kollage's tracks, like "Da Jawn" (with Black Thought of the Roots), are a bit too abstract. She's at her best when focusing on a theme, like Philly rap pioneers on "Uknowhowwedu," the first blush of love on "I Confess" and the groupie mentality on "True Honey Buns (Dat Freak Sh*t)." "To all the girls, do what you gotta do/ But it ain't what you do, it's how you do it," she says. With the rise of Lil Kim, Foxy Brown and the "video model" phenomenon, her advice fell on deaf ears.
