Released: May 2010
Band of Horses is really singer Ben Bridwell's baby, and on the band's third album, he remains the only original Horse. Bridwell's now cozy in his native South Carolina, with Seattle and Sub Pop Records just distant memories (and good song fodder: "NW Apt."). The physical shift also means a psychological one and it reflects in their sound -- where before a twanging guitar was an accent, it's now a soft-spoken leader. This is more Americana than anything indie rock; it suits Bridwell's gift for crafting songs that embrace life's simplicities and the melancholy that too often eclipses them.
