The rocking U.K. trio may have the very hand of God behind them in terms of major label backing/hype, but they consistently make good on the promises with riffs that stick, guitars that threaten to crush the listener and a decided willingness to color outside the lines. Singles "Bruises" and "The Devil Takes Care of His Own" are loud, loud, loud, and this band ultimately combines the no-frills immediacy of early White Stripes and the whip-smart sex-vibe of Yeah Yeah Yeahs with excellent results. Topped-out grinder "You' re Not Pretty But You Got it Goin' On" says it all.
