Biography

The floor-devastating potential of production duo Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton surfaced from the underground house scene with the release of their genre-swallowing debut Remedy in 1999. No strangers to celebratory sounds, these skillful collaborators honed their talents over the period of an entire decade that saw a slew of remixes, white labels and independent releases. Carving out a class of their own in a manner familiar to contemporary style-setters Daft Punk, these South Londoners label their chunky, U.K.-endorsed fusion of New York and Chicago House "punk garage." Basement Jaxx turn out anthem after anthem filled with colorful memorabilia of hip-hop, disco, ragga, soul, Latin and R&B, leveling crowded clubs and critics' circles alike with the force of tiny, trouble-causing tornadoes. Unequaled as yet.
