The first in an intended four-album cycle, Nordland I is Quorthon's return to the epic structures and wintry blast of Bathory's definitive take on Viking metal. With a stronger focus on Scandinavian folk, Nordland I is still loud as all hell and reaches the fist-raising, mid-tempo glory of Hammerheart plenty ("Dragon's Breath"), essentially picking back up where Twilight of the Gods left off after the stylistic departure that was 2001's Destroyer of Worlds.
