Beatnik Filmstars

The Beatnik Filmstars are a righteous Lo-Fi band from Bristol, England on Slumberland (the label that discovered Stereolab). Their wiry pop sound is sewn together with big clumps of sonic yarn, creating a disjointed yet erratic amalgamation of wind-up guitars, walls of pink noise, couldn't-give-a-shite vocal slack, and influences that range from GBV to the Fall. Although the band is from the land of red coats and Adidas-clad jerks named Damon, their British pop (not Brit Pop) is hardly a part of the tired post-Trainspotting subculture. The refreshing thing about Beatnik Filmstars (aside from their innovative and catchy tunes) is that they don't seem to be lumped in with any "scene" like so many other British indie bands.
