The prolific electro-belly dance band dropped this chunky EP just a year after its last full-length. But the follow-up to 2009’s Contraption Vol. 1 shows that they still somehow found time for growth in its hectic touring/recording schedule. Vol. II explores and expands Beats Antique’s thunderously delicate palette. “Crooked Muse,” with frequent collaborator Lynx, for instance, slips and slides around a drunken , dirty cabaret sound (plus flamenco!) that’s more bluesy than blippy. But even the more classically Antique beats wax experimental, toying with banjos and fiddles, bells and whistles.
