by Bee Gees
Released: Sep 1997
Label: Bee Gees/Reprise
The band had another hit with the sumptuous tearjerker "How Do You Mend a Broken Heart," but there are many other treasures on an album rich with historical allusions, melancholy wails and eccentric orchestrations. Both "Lion In Winter" and "Somebody Stop the Music" show off the band's unique, off-the-wall approach brilliantly. Even better, the majestic, wrist-slashing "Don't Wanna Live Inside Myself" finds Barry Gibb channeling John Lennon on the one hand while blueprinting the mope rock of Joy Division, the Cure and the Smiths on the other.
