Calling what Belanova does electro-pop feels limited, though that's the best umbrella term for this Mexican crew. What they do on Sueño Electro II is turn that umbrella inside out and examine it from every single angle. You want peppy bubblegum beats? Try "Mariposas." Retro electro-funk? "Flash Electrico." Danceable post-punk? "Infame." Electro-folklorico? "Hasta El Final." Icy dance-pop? "Luna." Then there's the country ballad (slide guitar and all!) "Aqui." It's all dizzingly diverse; in fact, it would feel directionless if each angle weren't driven by the sheer joy of exploration.
