This reissue of the 1973 debut album from Miles Davis' ex-wife (whom he claimed was "too young and wild" for him) is every bit as funky and freaky as you'd imagine. Backed by members of Sly and the Family Stone, Betty's snarling purr (think a less-restrained Macy Gray) is both coquettish and scary, and tracks "If I'm in Luck I Might Get Picked Up" and "Steppin' in Her I. Miller Shoes" unravel with shredding guitar solos, pounding rhythms and raw, funky grooves. It's beautiful in its complete raucous abandon.
