The difference between Big Mama Thornton and all the other classic female blues singers is that Thornton could eat pretty much any other singer for breakfast. At least she sounds like it, with a gravelly, fightin'- voice that's downright scary at times. Big Mama's version of "Hound Dog" is one of the dirtiest things you'll ever hear.
