Bill Barron

A constantly adventurous saxophonist, Barron died in 1989, leaving behind a small but impressive body of work. As a sideman he could play with the far-out Cecil Taylor or the mainstream Philly Joe Jones, with his own style falling in the middle (think of an artsy Dexter Gordon). His brother, pianist Kenny Barron, played on most of his recordings and went on to become a major jazz star.
