An Innocent Man
by Billy Joel
Released: Jan 1983
A track-by-track celebration of doo-wop, Motown, whatever Frankie Valli was doing and James Brown's early sound, this ninth album from Billy Joel clogged the charts in the early '80s with no less than seven singles, three of which reached the Top 10 and had attendant videos in heavy rotation on MTV. While the homages to doo-wop are impeccable, his Marvin Gaye-inspired "Leave a Tender Moment Alone" and reggae-tinged "Keeping the Faith" are the songs even non-fans should enjoy. Opener "Easy Money" was featured in the Rodney Dangerfield/Joe Pesci epic of the same name.
