Songs In The Attic
by Billy Joel
Released: Jan 1981
You might be temped to think that this is an album-ful of white elephants, and while that might have been true when Joel first recorded these tunes (1971-76), the songs here are vastly improved versions of his early canon -- made even better by an enhanced live recording and a careful editing of what he chose to cover. Plus, Joel seems genuinely happy to be performing these gems, giving the songs an energy and enthusiasm that is sometimes lacking in the re-rendering of his biggest hits. "Miami 2017" and "Say Goodbye to Hollywood " deserve to be dragged out of the attic and brought downstairs.
