Lush Life Electronica
Released: Feb 2006
The Bionaut must work out of a basement studio that floods often, because rarely has electronic music sounded this wet. His oscillators seem to have nozzles attached: from squelchy bass to pads that dissolve in mist, everything is soaked in overtone. The Bionaut, aka Jorg Burger (or the Modernist or Triola) takes his inspiration from avant-synth poppers like Yellow Magic Orchestra and Kraftwerk, slotting their melodic sensibility into the precision grid of contemporary techno, and kitting it all out with elements of dub, Detroit electro-funk and ambient. As a genre tag, "electronica" has come in and out of favor over the years, but it's hard to think of a better title for this gorgeous testament to the interface between the organic and the electronic.
