Biography
Veteran singer-songwriter Gary Floyd fronted the seminal Austin, Tex., Hardcore band the Dicks, and the San Francisco psychedelic Blues Rock band Sister Double Happiness. Floyd's riveting vocal presence made SDH very popular on the club circuit. Despite an eventual major label deal, the band found little mainstream success outside San Francisco and eventually folded. After fronting the rootsy Gary Floyd Band for a few years, Floyd formed Black Kali Ma, who play thundering twin guitar-driven Hard Rock that proudly strives for the riff-rock swagger of AC/DC and ZZ Top. The vocals combine Janis Joplin's nuanced Blues Rock rasp with Bon Scott or Brian Johnson's macho posturing, while the lyrics cast a leeringly jaundiced eye on love and the human condition.
