While we were listening to Blake Lewis's debut, three friends asked if it was Justin Timberlake. It's an understandable mistake: both JT and BL are earnest-voiced white boys who work very hard to come off as hip(-hop). And the second half of Day Dream is old-school Justin, all boy-band balladry at its most boring (except the soaring "End of the World"). But the first four tracks are pure Timbaland-era Timberlake, plus a little Jamiroquai ("Know My Name") and a heaping helping of Lewis's street-performer energy. Oh, and JT? Watch yourself -- BL could sing you under the table.
