Davey Havok and Jade Puget retain the part-goth, part-punk panache that brought them fame with band AFI, but chuck the instruments and go software geek for their debut as Blaqk Audio. Instantly, it's clear these two were kids of the '80s -- Depeche Mode synths and the EBM syncopation of Front 242 rub up alongside vocal-heavy industrial reminiscent of early Ministry. Havok's even mastered the dismal balladry and vocal inflections of Robert Smith. Consequently, CexCells lacks in focus, but the duo's catchy ambition will no doubt keep the black eyeliner flowing and the bodies moving.
