Fans of Big Star (or any '70s power pop) are in for a real treat here. As a result of their A&R man focusing his drive on the New York Dolls, Blue Ash slipped into the cracks of rock history, destined to cult fandom. They should have been huge. The Youngstown, Ohio quartet may have looked like proto-metal Hessians, but their sound pulled from the Beatles' penchant for vacuum-tight guitar pop, the Who's bombastic musicianship and damn if the singer's raspy voice doesn't sound identical to that of Slade's Noddy Holder. Just listen to the contagious "Abracadabra" and hear for yourself.
