Adventures In Counter-Culture

Adventures In Counter-Culture by Blueprint
Released: Apr 2011
Label: Rhymesayers
Six years have elapsed since Blueprint's 2005 album 1988, and he spends much of Adventures in Counter-Culture awkwardly adjusting to the new hip-hop landscape. The Ohio rapper sings in a flat croon reminiscent of Drake, toys with synth-pop beats, and criticizes celeb-reality ("Wanna Be Like You") and the rap COINTELPRO ("My Culture"). "I'll start in '88/ Then bring you up to date/ And then skip 10 years ahead so you don't have to wait," he rhymes on "The Clouds." But Blueprint should've stayed in 1988; he's more convincing as a "Radio-Inactive" emcee that can "Go Hard or Go Home (Printnificence)" than as another rap-and-B crooner.
