After breaking out with Blur, the Brits return with one of their most gorgeous, wackiest and least commercial albums to date. 13 embalms the spirit of a love-sickened hangover; it's woozy, wild, sad and sadistic. Damon Albarn sounds dazed and desolate, working out his split from Justine Frischmann: "I've gotta get over/ I've gotta get better/ Will love you forever," he ekes out on "Caramel." Meanwhile Graham Coxon and co. feed off his heartbreak, lending tender twangs, eerie organ, and narcotic swirls and drones alongside psychedelic freak-outs worthy of exorcising those ghosts-of-loves-past.
