Biography

You know all about the work of this eternal hipster even if you think you don't. Bob Dorough, a blissed-out jazzcat from way back, saw one of his clever ditties, "Three is a Magic Number," spun off into the wonderful Schoolhouse Rock series of educational shorts. Dorough wrote (and/or performed) a number of songs for the rightly beloved cartoons, though his place in jazz was secure long before that. Anyone who sings along with Diana Krall to "Devil May Care" or has danced to "Comin' Home Baby" is also grooving to Dorough. Vocal jazz fans still search for copies of 1956's Devil May Care. Dorough is now recording regulary for Blue Note, and has recently collaborated with the similarily thin-voiced Dave Frishberg on Who's On First (2000).
