Street-Legal
Bob Dylan
Released:
Jun 1978
Label:
Columbia
A stylistic change in direction from Desire, the pop feel and machine-like drums of this 1978 album foreshadowed the '80s adventures to come, and some diagonally Christian lyrics were the first stirrings of Dylan's born-again years and the trio of albums it produced. As such, Street-Legal was his first record to not reach the Top Ten (it made it to No. 11) since 1964. Unfair, as "Changing of the Guards" is one of his best late-period songs, and the whole album -- backing singers, saxophones and all -- is a prime example of his fearlessness when it comes to trying new things.
