Under The Red Sky
Bob Dylan
Released:
Sep 1990
Label:
Columbia
Opening with the kids' song "Wiggle, Wiggle," and dedicated to someone named "Gabby Goo Goo" (most likely his then four-year-old daughter), Under the Red Sky infuriated acolytes who had slavered over its immediate predecessor, Oh Mercy, and was deemed a major disappointment when it was released in 1990. Dylan himself said in interviews he was preoccupied with Traveling Wilburys when recording the album. But Don Was' production doesn't completely ruin everything, and just about anything is better than the Traveling Wilburys' record. He even invites folks to "smoke that fine" in "Unbelievable."
