Bob James
Released:
Jan 1974
Label:
Koch Records
Bob James was already an experienced crossover jazz-funk arranger and sideman, but this 1974 release was his first LP as a leader that didn't have a bop or experimental base. One is definitely entertaining, with James making the then-popular CTI sound even more mainstream (great jazz soloists meet lush charts/meet funk on classical pieces and pop tunes). Like many early James LPs, this is often sampled by today's hip-hop and R&B producers.
