By 1971, singer-songwriter Bobbie Gentry was covering the hits of the day and finding diminishing success in America. So, Gentry returned to writing her own songs and came up with this startling original theme album. Such beauties as "Marigolds and Tangerines," "But I Can't Get Back," "Benjamin," and the sexy librarian number "Miss Clara/Azusa Sue" are divided up by lush orchestral interludes. We've said it before and we'll say it again -- Bobbie Gentry was just too hip for her intended country audience while hippies and other city folk were just too prejudiced to give her a fair shake.
