Touch 'Em With Love by Bobbie Gentry
Released: Jul 1969
Label: Parlophone Catalogue
Another winner from Bobbie Gentry, this 1969 release matches her country-folk roots with rock, soul and sophisticated, supper-club pop (imagine an unholy, artistic union between Dusty Springfield, Dolly Parton and Jackie DeShannon). Gentry wrote only tracks 4 and 5, keeping the spotlight on her skills as a vocalist. Highlights include "Greyhound Goin' Somewhere," a very funky "Son of a Preacher Man" and Gentry's own "Seasons Come, Seasons Go." Her rendition of Burt Bacharach and Hal David's "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" didn't do anything stateside, but it soared to No. 1 in the U.K.
