This captures Darin not too long before his death, as he proves that his jazzy sense of showbiz meshes perfectly with the new sounds of the 1970s. As cheesy as the opener "Save the Country" initially seems, Darin's vocal bridge is as extraordinary as it is deeply felt. He also rocks "Higher & Higher" into outer space and does a Beatles medley (in 1970, there was always a Beatles medley). Darin was a real guy who was good at showbiz. Today's stars are showbiz fakes, who pretend they're real.
