Fight Like A Girl (EP) (EP)

Apr 2009

Biography

Kristy Osmonson moved to Nashville from Idaho; Buffy Lawson moved to the country capital from Kentucky. The two met during Fan Fair and, having clicked, decided to try their luck as a duo. Shows around Nashville followed, and the girls' humor-laced twang caught the attention of Curb Records. Their first single, "It Was an Absolutely, Finger Lickin', Grits and Chicken, Country Music Love Song," failed to ignite, but their follow-up "Ain't My Day to Care" managed to reach the country charts. Tours with big names like Montgomery Gentry and Jo Dee Messina followed. By the end of 2007, Lawson quit the band, citing creative differences, and the search for a new partner began. Arizona native Kelly Shepard was chosen to replace Lawson, and the two eagerly began writing, recording and playing live whenever they could. The duo cut "Cheater, Cheater," a song that Kristy co-wrote, but when Joey + Rory (the other co-writer) performed their version on CMT's Can You Duet, it became a hit, leaving the girls no alternative but to pick a new single. "Fight Like a Girl" subsequently became an out-of-the-box radio smash.
