Five years passed between Bonde do Rolé's 2007 breakout and Tropicalbacanal, and it sounds like the baile brats have done some serious growing up. That's not to say they're less playful (the album's called "bacanal," after all) or even less bratty: see the cheerleader flirtiness of "Brazilian Boys" or the slice of hipster sass that is "Arrastäo." Rather, they've stretched themselves out, spreading the sass across a glittering range, from Afro-pop to vintage psych-rock to Brazilian country. In other words, they've challenged themselves and homed in on their baile brattiness craftsmanship.
