Sweet Forgiveness
Bonnie Raitt
Released:
Jan 1977
Label:
Rhino Warner
From the funky feel of opener "About to Make Me Leave Home," it's clear that Sweet Forgiveness is a rawer, looser affair than Raitt's previous Paul A. Rothchild-produced effort, Home Plate -- which is largely due to the fact that Raitt's touring band (rather than session musicians) is playing on the album. Raitt shines on soulful rocker "Gamblin' Man"; her vocals are impeccable and her guitar playing absolutely fierce. Other highlights include the melancholy "Louise," the boogie-woogie rocker "Three Time Loser" and the swaggering, blues-infused version of Del Shannon's "Runaway."
