Boris have long been key in the stoner metal scene, right up there with Sunn 0))) and High on Fire. Yet Smile's opener, "Flower, Sun, Rain," finds these Japanese heavies delving into fried noise-folk. From here, things get even weirder as the band ventures into blown-out freakery a la G.I.S.M. and Les Rallizes Denudes. Obviously, Smile will disappoint those expecting Boris' neo-Sabbath drone. If, however, you crave totally blown-out production, do dig into this odd nugget.
