Robert Pollard once again proves he's the most prolific songwriter in the history of indie rock. Planets Are Blasted comes just five months after Boston Spaceships' debut, Brown Submarine. Despite the short turnaround time, the album sounds more sculpted than its predecessor. It also sounds a bit more rocking. Both "UFO Love Letters" and "Keep Me Down" betray Pollard's longtime love for crunchy power pop a la the mighty Cheap Trick. That latter jam in particular boasts some awesome ax-whammers.
