TAKEMITSU: Orchestral Works
Released: Jul 2006
Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu's works deal with dreams and gardens, each offering surreal settings for his soft and often brilliantly jarring textures. His most famous, A Flock Descends into the Pentagonal Garden, moves without regular rhythm but with surreal tonal methods, with the "flock" represented by an oboe moving through a chromatic landscape. His ability to write enchantment also served him well as a film composer, notably here on the suspended brooding of "Black Rain."
